The Palestine Project

The Palestine Project was launched in autumn of 2023 following the events of October of that year that developed into a major humanitarian crisis, especially in Gaza but also in the West Bank. The Project’s aim is to raise awareness of the current situation in the region and to address and promote dialogue on Palestine’s history. Our objective is to bridge the resources of collaborative institutions and fields of research with our local community and to emphasize and examine ethical accountability in academia.

As has become even more evident in recent times, Palestine has a global significance and is increasingly affecting politics and society in the Western World. Through dialogue and public outreach, the project aims to promote and preserve democratic processes and critical thought.

The Palestine Project is funded by the University of Iceland social outreach grant scheme. It is led by Dr Thorir Jonsson Hraundal, Lecturer in Middle Eastern Studies, and Nikkita Hamar Patterson and Hasan Karakilinc who are both PhD students at the Department of Languages and Culture at the University of Iceland.
